Go Green Infinity is a CSR program that is being initiated for the cause of environment. One of the efforts of Go Green Infinity is the planting of mangrove trees and mangrove nursery. Pulau Indah was once a rural island with fishing villages, mangrove swamps and some orang asli inhabitants. Then came the development of Ports, industrial estates, commercial developments, tranquil villages, bridges and other rapid transformation. Due to the industrialization, we realized that many mangrove trees have been destroyed and the entire ecosystem of the area has been affected. Therefore, Go Green Infinity seeks to set up a mangrove nursery and replant mangroves here for the coastal fishing communities in Pulau Indah. With supports from Westports Malaysia and Central Spectrum, this collaboration is seen to be vital in ensuring that the program is sustainable and effective.
The setting up of a nursery mangrove in Pulau Indah marks the first nursery mangrove in Selangor region. According to JARING, there are only four mangrove nurseries in the whole of West Malaysia including Kuala Kurau, Perak; Merbok, Kedah; Pontian, Johor; and Pulau Langkawi, Kedah. With this mangrove nursery being set-up, it can be a source of income for the fishermen community and helps breed more mangrove trees thereafter.
The program is also assisted and guided by Persatuan Pendidikan dan Kebajikan Jaringan Nelayan Pantai Malaysia, also known as JARING, a non-profit organization. The program started in May 2015 and is set to be for at least 2 years with planting of at least 300 mangrove trees on every quarterly with employees of each company involved.
